| Description:
The Aligoté variety of grape, generally used as a blending grape for sparkling white wines, was first produced in the region of Bourgogne(better known to those of the English language as Burgundy). This region, which encompasses both France and part of Switerland, is well known for high production and high yields of grapes that are used to make Pinot Noir as well as Chardonnay. Though Aligoté is not used as a blend for either of those varieties it does share a common ancestry with both grapes. Its regional production dates back as early as the 1st century AD and is currently in the top 30 most planted vines in the world. Now grown in countries all over the world it stands apart from wines because of it's strong acidity, rich flavor and high alcohol content. Wine spectators from across the globe agree that the Aligoté variety is one of important note and worthy of praise for it's wonderful use as a dynamic blending wine used to bring structure to many wines that would otherwise lack the essentials of a great white wine. |
