Primarily grown in Bourgogne(or Burgundy) France, the Chardonnay variety of white grape is one of the easier vines to grown as it can thrive in a number of different climates and, elevations and soils. It's production in France is second to none; this variety dominants the French landscape being grown almost three times more than any other variety. It's history dates back as far as any recorded history in its region and is most related to the Pinot Blanc variety of white grapes. Many of the current vineyards in France that feature this exquisite vine use clones developed for their specific enhanced attributes by the University of Bourgogne located in the downtown city of Dijon. It is of some importance to note that Chardonnay is a key blend in creating Champagne and is most notable for bring the distinct dry flavor found in many of the more prestigious labels. This variety is known throughout the world for it's diverse qualities and bountiful harvest. |
