| Description:
The Chenin Blanc white grape variety is commonly grown in the Loire Valley of France, South Africa and California. It is the most planted wine grape in South Africa and the third most planted white wine grape in California. It is also grown in Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Chenin Blanc contains a high acidity level. It is a versatile grape variety, and when well controlled it can produce wines that range from dry to sweet to sparkling. Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley is often used to make fine dessert wines and tends to age well due to its acidity. The acidic taste will be more prominent if the grapes do not fully ripen. If allowed to fully ripen, Chenin Blanc will produce an acidic taste balanced by sweetness. Due to the high volume of this grape variety that is produced, many Chenin Blanc wines are inexpensive. |
