| Description:
The Colombard white grape variety is primarily grown in four areas of the World. The Colombard white grape is grown in North America where it is commonly known as the French Colombard. It is grown in the wine district of California where it is used to make a white wine that has a fruity flavor. The Colombard is also grown in France where it has been used in the process of making Cognac. Today the French winemakers use the Californian method of crushing Colombard old vine grapes to make a new fruity wine. Wine makers in South Africa grow the Colombard but call it Columbar. They use the Colombard white grape because of its propensity to stand up to hot weather and still produce a crisp, fruity wine. Finally, Australia grows the Colombard grape for its natural acidic properties that allow it to be used for distillation and blending of other wines. |
