| Description:
Camarese is a red wine grape that grows primarily in the Rhone Valley region of Southern France. More specifically, it is grown near the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, making it a grape permitted in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend. However, in recent years only .15% of the region's appellation is planted with the Camarese variety. In this area, it is known as Vaccarese. Unlike the Mourvèdre, the Camarese is purely indigenous to the Rhone Valley. This grape variety is also known as Brun Argenté.The Vaccarese grape is only used as a minority grape in a bend. It is said to have similar characteristics as Syrah, since it produces wine with a peppery and tannic structure. However it is also similar to Cinsaut, in that it produces light red wines. Appearance-wise, it bears some similarity to Muscardin and Aubun grapes. In addition, the vine has a tendency to bud late and is susceptible to downy mildew. |
